Flor y Canto
Here is a rare opportunity to see the original Spanish California dances & songs of the 19th century. Interwoven with historic narration, the musical numbers are accompanied on replica acoustic instruments. These unique songs & dances are performed by local residents much as they would have been 150 years ago, in authentic costumes. Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the show. Held at the Santa Barbara Courthouse Sunken Gardens, 1100 Anacapa Street, Santa Barbara, CA 93101. This event is free. Friday, August 5th, 2011 at 7:00pm.
Californio Canto-Baile
The Californio Canto~Baile Arts Education Program is a unique arts education outreach project of Old Spanish Days Fiesta in Santa Barbara, CA. The songs, dances and history of Santa Barbara’s pastoral era, during California’s Rancho period around 1850, are taught to fourth graders at local elementary schools in Santa Barbara, Goleta and Isla Vista, during school time. The project perpetuates and preserves local cultural identity while providing much-needed arts education experiences free-of-charge to each school. For more information see the Canto-Balle Facebook page.
