Calling all Artists!
Old Spanish Days in Santa Barbara, Inc. Invites Artists to participate in a special
Fiesta Poster Competition, 2008
Tim Taylor, 2008 Fiesta El Presidente says: "My theme for Fiesta is "Viva La Communidad" – Long Live the Community, and what better way to exemplify that than to invite our local artists to create works of art and enter them into a competition for the 2008 Poster. For the past three years, local artists John Wullbrandt (2005), Brad Nack (2006) and Ralph Waterhouse (2007) created the Posters, but this year, I want to open up this opportunity to all of our vibrant and talented local art community and encourage them to create works that evoke the spirit and traditions of Fiesta"
The Santa Barbara Art Association, in cooperation with Old Spanish Days in Santa Barbara, Inc, will host an Ingathering in early May. Three professional jurors will be asked to select 20 pieces to receive "Juror's Choice" awards. From those Juror's Choice' awardees, El Presidente Taylor will select one piece to be awarded "El Presidente's Choice" which will be used for the 2008 Fiesta Poster. The Juror's Choice winners will be featured at a special Show and Reception in late May sponsored and hosted by Business First National Bank, and will also be displayed during select events during Old Spanish Days. Taylor went on to indicate "We are also planning to host one or more shows and sales for submitted artwork in partnership with the Santa Barbara Art Association".
"We encourage all local artists 18 years of age and up to participate", says Bob Rowley, President of the Santa Barbara Art Association. (Artists under 17 can enter the Fiesta Youth Poster Competition, hosted by Old Spanish Days.) Any style or size of flat art is acceptable as long as it can be digitized for production of the 22" x 28" poster. A vertical (portrait) format is preferred. The winning piece may be purchased by Tim Taylor along with all reproduction rights.
Starting December 10th through the 21st, Fiesta Posters from previous years will be displayed at the Carriage and Western Art Museum 129 Castillo Street, open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This will give interested artists a view of some of the favorite posters from past years.
A detailed invitation and application are now available on the Old Spanish Days website (www.oldspanishdays-fiesta.org ), at the Old Spanish Days office 129 Castillo Street, 962-8101 x 25, and in the SBAA Office at Gallery 113 (La Arcada Court, 1114 State St, 965-6611).
